What Am I Doing?

Sunday, 22 September 2013

Haven't posted for a while - my thanks to writer friend and weird fiction machine Deborah Walker for nudging me - so here's a quick update on everything I've been doing on the writing front...

  1. Planning and plotting the sequel to Engn. A 7000 word outline is now with my editor - hopefully I'll start the actual writing soon...
  2. Working on flash fiction for the Flash Fiction Fest. I've had nine pieces accepted for the collection if I'm counting them correctly.
  3. Edits for We, the People of the Clouds - the SF novelette being published in the Ruined Cities anthology.
  4. Working on edits for Unleashing Hellfire, a new SF story set in the Dark Expanse universe.
  5. Working on a bunch of other short and flash stories. I currently have around ten in various stages of development - which is pretty normal for me.
  6. Discussions about the Hedge Witch novel and its release schedule with Morrigan Books, about which more news soon. Hopefully.
  7. A whole bunch of other stuff, e.g. an anthology I can't mention just yet and the imminent release of all five Genehunter novelettes as audiobooks.

So, no excuses for not blogging, but sometimes the writing takes over, no?

PS. This is not actually a picture of me. Oh no. I much prefer to wear a wizard's hat while working...

    1. Thanks - and I know, Hedge Witch is taking an age to appear. Out of my control unfortunately...

  2. You've got your priorities straight, amigo -- but thanks for the update. Glad to know you're not buried under tons of revisions. Having a variety of projects in the works is the way to keep things fresh, methinks.

    1. I do agree - get stuck on one thing and you can work on something else for a time. Helps me no end.

    1. Nah, it's mostly been sitting around contemplating the universe. Hah. I wish.

  5. Slow down, man. You're making the rest of us look bad!

I've gone for a simple set of 7 for the Flash Fiction Fest, 1 per sin. Looking forward to seeing what you've come up with.

    {SPOILERS FOR ENGN AHEAD - DO NOT READ FURTHER IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE NOVEL}

Regarding Engn - my vote for the sequel is, I'd like to see Connor's story. Finn's story was good, but come the end I felt Connor was the more compelling character with the really interesting story to tell. I want to know how Engn really works, and Connor has the keys to kingdom, literally and figuratively. That's my vote for the sequel - take us through his story, show us how Engn really works, and then show us how Connor lived through those explosions...

  6. Somehow I think the regular writing is way more important than the regular blogging :)

    1. Absolutely! Still, it's good to do both, right?

  7. Wow, you ARE keeping busy.

If it's any consolation about not blogging for a bit, I was too busy to notice you hadn't ;)
