Anything but that, obviously...

Tuesday, 1 July 2014

So I caught up with an old friend at the weekend:

Friend: Gosh, you've written loads of things! Which would you recommend for my reading group?

Me: Well, what sort of thing do they like?

Friend: Oh, anything.

Me: OK, good...

Friend: Well, except for that science fiction stuff. They don't really like things like that.

Me: Ah.

I had to laugh. Quietly, to myself. Has this ever happened to you? I bet it has...

  1. My reading group, although not spec fans, really loved 'Flowers for Algernon'. I can't get them to read any horror, though

    1. Keep trying - sometimes people need to try these things ;-)

  2. Yup, horror, just substitute that for me. Although, I don't have a reading group.
Still, you have plenty of good fantasy to offer.

    1. Thanks! I suspect they included fantasy when they said "science fiction". The way people do...

  3. Too funny. I guess they could read "Seek Alternative Route." Beyond that he pretty much canceled out all your work with that "minor" stipulation.

    1. Indeed. It's a pretty common reaction, I guess, although a baffling one.

  4. LMAO - I get it all the time. "Oh, you write children's novels...I can't read those..." The sneer is something I never get bored of!

    1. ... whereas there's a high probability that an adult who doesn't read "children's" novels is, in fact, a boring person...
